Norling House - A Perfect Holiday Retreat

Tucked into the Norbulingka gardens, Norling House is the perfect holiday retreat surrounded by the lush gardens and flowing streams of the Norbulingka grounds. Each room is themed according to a different animal from Tibetan mythology and is a showcase of the work of Norbulingka artists, as all the furniture and original paintings were lovingly handcrafted and painted by our artists. It is located within the campus of Norbulingka Institute.

HUMMINGBIRD RESTAURANT

Set around lush green gardens, gurgling streams run through the immaculately maintained Japanese styled gardens, while birds of different species can be seen fluttering among the treetops. Flitting through, you will most definitely sight the local Paradise flycatchers while you enjoy your meal. We serve delicious vegetarian dishes in a dining area decorated by Norbulingka artists. Rooftop and outdoor dining allow our guests to enjoy the gardens and take in the beauty of the nature that surrounds the restaurant.

Norbulinka is getting popular and is fairly busy from 10 am to 6pm. A bit crowded and noisy, quite a setback for those who considered it a “Hidden Gem “. A stay at Norling House is the only way you can enjoy the real charm of the place It is a beautiful hotel. Warning - the Tibetan restaurant has huge servings, so order carefully to avoid wasting food. The birdsongs, landscaping and running water are worth a lifetime's memories.

The Norbulingka institute is a monastery with art exhibits and museums and a temple. We were quite thrilled to find out that they had housing quarters as well. Immediately a plan was made to accommodate a stay at Norling House and it was the best 2 days of our vacation. There is so much tranquility in the air and the temple set against the backdrop of the mountains adds mystique to the already beautiful place. The room was splendid with heating and enough blankets to counter the weather. The restaurant housed in the Monastery was delicious although a bit expensive. Loved the stay and would definitely visit again.

It is a peaceful, quiet place to stay. The rooms are nice, staff is warm and helpful. you can walk around, visit the art and craft workshops, temple and their shop. If you stay here you will wake up to chirping birds which to me is quite wonderful. Restaurant is not that great, food is average, but you can try coffee and cakes at their cafe. There are way too many mosquitoes if you want to sit outside and enjoy the food and coffee so be prepared.
